The twelve paintings and one graphic work of American abstract expressionist Mark Rothko will be shown in spring 2010 at an exhibition in the Moscow Center of Contemporary Culture "Garage". The exhibition will last three months. It is reported by the publication The Art Newspaper. So far, Russia has never had Rothko exhibition: to us they brought only a few works of this artist.
Rothko's works, which will arrive in Moscow until July 2009 belonged to Ezra Merkin, a New York financier involved in the case of Bernard Meydoffa. According to The Art Newspaper, a collection worth $ 310 million was sold through the Director of the New York gallery PaceWildenstein Mark Glimshera. Fees Glimshera totaled 11 million dollars. The name of the buyer collection is unknown, but Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, international coordinator of the "Garage", flatly denies that the transaction is at least somehow connected with the name of Roman Abramovich.
Art of Mark Rothko (1903 - 1970) in recent years extremely appreciated: for example, in 2007, his painting "White Center" from the collection of David Rockefeller went under the hammer for an unprecedented 72.8 million.
Opened in 2008, "Garage" became during this time in a major exhibition venues of Moscow: it houses the main exhibition of the Third Biennale of Contemporary Art, it was shown exhibition by Antony Gormley and exhibits from the collection of Francois Pinault, the market adopted the draft Red wagon "and" Alternative History of Art "Ilya Kabakov.
