"Thank you for your e-mail and thank you too for the images that I can now open very easily. Yes, I remember the pieces now.
The four costumes designs that you have here for "St. Sebastien" are not typical of Goncharova's stage practice but she worked in a variety of styles and in my view the attributions to Goncharova are correct. Bakst had worked on a production of "St. Sebastien" for Ida Rubinstein in 1911-1912 and it is highly likely that Diaghilev or, indeed, one of the ballet /theatre impressarios of the 1930s commissioned Goncharova to make designs for the production. Sometimes, it was the case that in the course of time the original costumes for a production went missing or were destroyed. In cases such as this Goncharova was asked to make new costume designs (this was the case with the ballet "Sadko"). So, in my view, the attribution is correct. In my opinion these are by Goncharova and were executed for a previously unknown project.
Thank you for the good quality images - I have added them into my files.
With every good wish,
Anthony Parton "
Now my question: How many of these works will cost in Russia?
Thank you for your attention!
