In 2007 in Paris through the efforts of the Museum d'Orsay was issued weighty volume, which
Unfortunately, only now appeared in my hands. This "From Cezanne to
Picasso. Masterpieces gallery Vollara »(De Cézanne à Picasso. Chefs-d'oeuvre
de la galerie Vollard. - Paris, 2007. - 351 p.). The name may introduce
misleading: it is not the album of paintings originating from the gallery A. Vollara
(1866 - 1939). Paintings, of course, in this publication are presented, and abound.
This - a study on the history Vollara as a gallerist, collector and publisher. Especially valuable is the extensive use of documentary materials - down to the remaining accounts, which enable us to judge not only the financial side of things, but also about the time and frequency of contacts with the artists. It is
documentary base has allowed to reconstruct the main lines of
Vollara and its influence on the development of fine arts.
The book-album went to an exhibition at the Museum d'Orsay, organized with the assistance
a number of organizations - the National Association of Museums, Museum
Metropolitan Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago. Materials
exhibitions and publications have provided 45 organizations from 13 countries, including
from Russia (Pushkin Museum and the Hermitage).
The book contains several sections. This "Vollar and artists" (individual
sections are devoted to paintings by Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, nabidov, Picasso,
Fauvism, Matisse, Renoir, Degas, Rouault). Greatest detail
analyzed the vicissitudes of relations with the majority of these artists.
The next section is devoted Vollaru as publisher of prints and albums
books, illustrated by artists such as Maillol, Bonnard, Vyuiyar,
Denis, Roussel, Denis, Bernard, Rodin, Rouault and Picasso. By publishing
of the authors of the book carried and casting runs Maillol sculptures
and Picasso (curious about the nuances of copyright law at the time).
Section "Vollar and collectors," describes his relationship with
world of collectors. Separately marked paragraphs on the German and Russian
collectors.
Encapsulates a book chapter on the sad fate of the collections and archives Vollara.
