(1894-1967)

Ermilov Vasily, Ukrainian artist, one of the leading masters of Ukrainian avant-garde in the first half of 20.
Born in Kharkov, 9 (21) March 1894 in the family tailor. In 1905-1909 he studied at the local school of decorative painting, and finished it for a living, raspisyvaya interiors. In 1910 he joined the Kharkiv Art College, but, dissatisfied with the too conservative system of teaching, left him and engaged in school-studio EA Steinberg, and AN Groth. Arriving in Moscow (1911), the following year enrolled in the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, but quickly abandoned (for the same reasons) and then visited the studio of I. Mashkov and Pyotr Konchalovsky. In 1914 he returned to his hometown. Member of the First (1915-1918) and Second (1941-1945) World Wars. Belonged to the Kharkov Futurist group "Seven" (1918) and "Association of Revolutionary Art of Ukraine" (Armu; from 1927). Been influenced by VE Tatlin.
Yermilov artistic maturity coincided with the revolution. Occupying a 1919 executive positions in the Kharkov art education (under his local school was reorganized in 1921 in college, at the vanguard of its rivals the Moscow Higher Art - the highest artistic and technical workshops), as well as the head of the Ukrainian section of the iso-Telegraphic Agency (UkROSTA) , Ermilov decorated the city to the massive political events, painted agitvagony and workers' clubs. In the later period, he continued to teach and work designer (although not the streets and squares, a "red corner") from time to time referring to the monumental, but a purely "imaginary" is not designed for the specific embodiment of the projects ( "Monument of Lenin era ", 1961; draft a memorial museum of Picasso, 1967).
