Exhibition of works by Russian artists of the 150th anniversary of the Cathedral of St.. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris

November 17 in Paris, an exhibition of works by Russian artists in Paris, Galerie Sialsky at 2, rue Pierre le Grand (opposite the Cathedral).

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary the consecration of a Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky in Paris, Russian artists have donated, each one of his works. These paintings are on display from 17 to 24 November 2011, and then will be sold at auction November 24 2011 (starting 20 h) Commissioner-winner Maitre Olivier Couteau-Begar (Maître Olivier Couteau-Bégarie) in favor of the cathedral, for its restoration.

Exhibitors include 28 Russian artists of world renown: Rinat ANIMAEV, Alexander Barber-Ivanov, Alex Nordic, Antoine BRESLAVTSEV, William Bruy, Oleg DRILLING-GONDILOV, Sergei Chepikov, George Shishkin, Nicholas DRONNIKOV, Gabriel -Huon Ergin, Irina Gorki, Sergey Khodorovich, Boris Lejeune, Galina Terry, Volodya Popov-Masyagina, Anatoly PUTILIN, Oscar RABIN, Elena Repnin, Glory SAVELYEV, Ivan Sologub, Vitaly STATSINSKY, Vladimir Chernyshev, Nicholas TIHOBRAZOV, Sergey Tutunov, Yura VISHNEVSKY, Kate Zubchenko, Nicholas Zykov, Vitaly Zelenko.

Eight of the artists were born in France, where their parents or grandparents emigrated after the 1917 revolution.

All money will go directly to the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris ( or St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris ) is located on rue Daru (12 , rue Daru, Paris). Consecrated in 1861 in the reign of Alexander II and named after its patron saint - Alexander Nevsky. In 1867, Alexander II stood up in the temple of thanksgiving after the escaped death during the attack in the Bois de Boulogne .

Russian presence in France dates from the XVIII century.
In the XIX century, about a thousand Russian temporarily or permanently residing in Paris. They have no other place of prayer except that which was at the Russian Embassy in Paris - too close.

In 1847 the priest of the Russian embassy Joseph Vasiliev began work on designing a permanent temple. The French administration has delayed the completion of the project, but Napoleon III finally gave his consent.

Funding for construction was carried out mainly on donations made by the Russian in Russia and around the world. Tsar Alexander II made a personal contribution - about 150 000 francs in gold. The project was of great interest in France. To donate joined the Orthodox contributions Catholics and Protestants.
