По умолчанию December 1 - World AIDS Day

1 December - World AIDS Day

Throughout the world today talk about AIDS, about the kind of existential threat to humanity is the global epidemic. You can remember and mourn those who have died or is terminally ill, we can talk about the scale of the tragedy and the fact that this plague 20, and now in the 21st century threatens the existence of mankind ...
June 5, 1981 American Center for Disease Control has registered a new disease - AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).
World AIDS Day (World AIDS Day) first celebrated on December 1, 1988, after a meeting of health ministers of all countries there was a call for social tolerance and the exchange of information on HIV /AIDS. Celebrated annually on December 1 World AIDS Day serves to strengthen the organized efforts to combat the pandemic of HIV and AIDS spreading in all regions of the world. Organized efforts aimed at strengthening public support for programs to prevent the spread of HIV /AIDS, to provide training and information on all aspects of HIV /AIDS.
Realizing the increasing complexities associated with HIV /AIDS pandemic, the UN established in 1996 by union of six global organizations. Called the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV /AIDS (Joint United Nations Programme on HIV /AIDS, UNAIDS), the program brings together as sponsors of this joint project UN Children's Fund, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Fund for Population, Organization of the United Nations on Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Health Organization (WHO) and World Bank.
UNAIDS supports the long-term global project to prevent HIV infection and AIDS and helps the fight for human rights regardless of HIV status, provides assistance to countries around the world through education on prevention, support for research on HIV /AIDS and work with programs to enhance international front HIV /AIDS.
World AIDS Day became an annual event in most countries. Although the December 1 is defined as the date for the Day, in many communities organized several events in the weeks and days before and after the official celebration.
Symbol of the struggle against AIDS is a red ribbon, no action in this area can not do without it now. This ribbon as a symbol of AIDS awareness was conceived in the spring of 1991. This idea belongs to the artist Frank Moore. He lived in a provincial town in New York State, where a neighbor's family wore yellow ribbons, hoping for the safe return of her daughter, a soldier from the Persian Gulf.
Ribbons as a symbol first appeared during the Gulf War. Green belt, not like an inverted «V», have become a symbol of experiences associated with the murders of children in Atlanta. The artist decided that the ribbon could be a metaphor for AIDS, too.
The idea was adopted by a group of «Visual AIDS». As an organization comprised of professional artists and managers of arts, advertising visible symbol of the fight against AIDS has been made very well. It all started very simply. Here is an excerpt from an early flyer «Visual AIDS»: «Cut the red tape 6 inches in length, then fold the top of an inverted« V ». Use a safety pin to attach it to your clothes. "
The project "Red Ribbon" was officially launched at the 45th annual awards ceremony «Tony Awards» June 2, 2000. All the nominees and participants were invited (and quite successfully) to pin these tapes. According to a press release, the advertising project "Red Ribbon", "Red Ribbon (inverted« V ») is a symbol of our sympathy, support and hope for a future without AIDS. The greatest hope associated with this project - is that by December 1, World AIDS Day, these tapes will be all over the world. "
And the red tape has gained immense popularity. Even though overt SPIDofobiya was at its peak, red ribbons are increasingly appearing on the lapels of jackets, hats fields - wherever you can pin a safety pin. Over the next few years, the band became part of the dress code for the elite at the ceremonies, not only Tony, but also for an Oscar and an Emmy as well.
