The other day in the gallery "Sololaki" exhibition opened in Tbilisi Armenian artists "Forgotten Names". Simon Samsonian was one of several Armenia Diaspora artists living in Cairo, Egypt in the 1950s and 1960s. Like his contemporaries Onnig Avedissian, Achod Zorian, Gregoire Meguerdichian, Hagop Hagopian, and Puzant Godjamanian, Samsonian's work is heavily influenced by the Genocide. He himself was a child survivor and grew up in orphanages throughout his childhood. Here is a fragment of it devoted to the work by Ara Hakobyan.

Ara Hakobyan in their creative search to more traditional, even classical. The Armenian art has repeatedly found inspiring his motives. Whether he writes of children playing on the shore of Lake Sevan, a landscape or portraits of loved ones, he's not trying to transform any nature, nor fit into any known artistic style. Product Ara Hakobyan subject are realistic, they feel a professional training, but they can not be called commonplace. Sincere feeling, very personal, intimate relationship animate painting, creates around it a certain aura of tenderness. Something that represents the artist's personal experience, it becomes easy and proper sense of the viewer. Tenderness paints a portrait of the artist's grandfather, a portrait of his mother - a simple, clear and close to anyone feeling which helps to stretch the thread of understanding between the artist and us.
