In Kiev Vasily Krichevsky lived at number 9 on the street Pankovskaya on the first floor. The third resident master of the house - Ukrainian historian Mikhail Grushevskii. In January 1918, when it was formed the Ukrainian National Republic, Grushevskii commissioned the artist to develop state symbols. He was convinced that such an expert on the history and culture of Ukraine, as Krichevsky, finds the most concise symbols that convey the essence of the young state. And March 28, 1918 the official emblem of Ukraine became the trident Prince Vladimir of Kiev, appropriately revised and issued.

In 1925, Krichevsky found and helped restore the house of Taras Shevchenko in Kiev, having achieved that it has opened a museum.

At the end of the war, fearing that he was caught in the occupation, will remember us with the leaders of the Ukrainian People's Republic of Michael Grushevskii and Simon Petlura, 70-year-old architect fled abroad. He died in Venezuela.

The artistic heritage of Basil Krichevsky - hundreds of paintings, sketches, book bindings, dozens of sketches of buildings and scenery for the movie. Much of the work of the artist is abroad, mainly in the Ukrainian Museum in New York. In 2003, the granddaughter of Basil Krichevsky Oksana de Linde gave about 300 works by his grandfather as a gift to Ukrainian museums. Among them, oil and watercolor, graphics, ornamental work, designs for book bindings, objects from the family archive.

His brother Basil Krichevsky - Fedor - also a painter. And a great teacher. In 1917 he participated in the creation of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts, then was among the organizers of the Association of Artists of Ukraine red. In the 30-ies he worked deputy director of the Kiev Art Institute, the Dean of Faculty of Painting. Among his pupils such famous Ukrainian masters as Sergei Grigoriev, Victor Kostecki, George Melikhov, Tatiana Yablonskaya, Sergei Otroshchenko.

The Second World War found the artist during a trip to Western Ukraine. He returned to Kiev, here spent the years of German occupation. In the autumn of 1943 left the capital, along with other refugees. Popal to Konigsberg, found work a draftsman at the factory. After taking the city by Soviet troops Krichevsky fell into the clutches of the military counterintelligence of the USSR. A year later, walking through Poland, reached Kiev. Here he was again imprisoned. However, soon released, depriving the scientific title, the title of Honored Worker of Arts and homeownership. Krichevsky evicted from the city - in Irpen. Nikita Khrushchev, as first secretary of the Communist Party of Ukraine, the artist had promised pardon if he would write portraits of his father and peoples. The artist did not react to such a proposal. Coming to freedom, he lived less than a year and died of starvation in the midst of summer.
