Varvara Stepanova, F. was born October 29, 1894 in Kovno (now Kaunas, Lithuania). She studied at the Kazan Art School, where she met with the future life partner and ally in the art of Rodchenko, and adopted it as their own ideas.

On arrival in Moscow in 1912, worked in a factory, attending private studio Juon and Stroganov School of Industrial Art.

The youngest among the Russian avant-garde, it was nonetheless evident there. The alliance with Rodchenko defined its transition from an early symbolist poetry and graphics to the non-objective painting and poetry.

The basis of non-objective compositions Stepanova always obvious stylized figurative motifs and subject. They gravitated more to the game, geometric shapes, rather than to the philosophy of language.
