In 1956, a vandal threw acid at the picture, and in the same year, another man threw in the "Mona Lisa" stone, damaging the paint layer near the left elbow by women.
In the last case of vandalism at the Louvre was recorded in 1998, when Professor of Mathematics struck the statue of the philosopher Seneca, a hammer.
