It seems like figure made of wax. Or is it still bone carving? All this - a miracle of beauty! Thank you!
The whole thread on the model of "Royal Sovereign" (museum) is made of wood covered with grushi.Zatem Shellac varnish. Pears generally widely used in modeling. Many models are built entirely out of it.
Add a little photo real model. Located in the Central Naval Museum in St. Petersburg. Made in England in the late 17 th century.

По умолчанию Flag of the United Kingdom with the Battle of Trafalgar sold for 600 thousand dollars.

Descendant party Battle of Trafalgar sold at auction injured in the battle flag of the United Kingdom for 384,000 pounds (634,000 dollars), reports Reuters. Sold flag is the last surviving since the time the Union Jack.

We are building a model on order. Do it professionally - it is for us to work, not a hobby. Therefore, all seriously and thoroughly. So much for that, on whose behalf I place information. We are community of craftsmen who built this beauty. Michael Bezverhny (St. Petersburg), Alexei Baranov (Odessa), Alexander Gerashchenko (Odessa), Narim Maygeldinov (St. Petersburg), Dmitry Shevelev (Nizhny Novgorod), Vitaly Anahin (Kharkiv), Igor Kapinos (Poltava), Victor Ovcharov ( Sevastopol). Behind each of these artists is a long-term experience in creating high quality models. Their works are in private collections in Europe, America, Russia and Ukraine. For example work NARIM Maygeldinova was presented to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. A trifle, but nice. Experience allows us to take our order for almost any vehicle. We are primarily interested in orders for complex and unique crafts. Those who are not replicated in the mass production of handicraft models. Therefore, we are spearheading the search for potential customers who may want to create and finance as separate models, as well as collections of models. See list of models and their current location can be here http://www.shipmodels.com.ua/rus/index.htm

Over the past 20 years (since the collapse of the Soviet Union), the former Soviet Union have created a unique environment for the development Shipmodelling as an art form with a pronounced commercial character. The uniqueness of these terms is determined by the fact that nowhere else in the world (except France, but more on that later) master did not build a classic luxury ship models implying commercialization of their creations. Higher kulminatsonnoy point in its development, the classical art of making models of ships in Europe, reached in France and Belgium. However, the eminent masters usually live club life and do not sell their models, the building which sometimes takes more than a dozen years. The French and Belgians are involved in their closed tenders, generously delyats diferambami with each other, although usually not without exceptions. Two very famous Frenchman, Olivier White (www.arsenal-modelist.com) and Bernard Frelish, still trying to sell their models.
At the post-Soviet space situation with the art of creating elite models of ships, is quite different. Probably the liveliness and predpreimchivost Russian soul has played a role. Striving to achieve better results in the creation turned soem hobby into a professional zanyatast. which in turn affected the quality of models. In an extremely short period (which is 20 years old) model of "Soviet" masters have come to the leading place in the world craftsmanship and highest quality. It is appropriate to compare the "Soviet" masters and their Franco-Belgian colleagues. Not a secret that in former times, our masters have learned from the French. And let them rejoice at the French teacher, our masters have surpassed the French school at times), and many eminent French is recognized, though not willingly (this is understandable, not so that want to move to a place of honor).

Exhibits, as you indicate SEI items are not much and not in our collection. For us it can be called a portfolio.
Being such models, many can not, by definition. Creating a unique model, you can call it an event of national scale, because not every country can afford to bring up the wizard with a worldwide reputation, much less build a collection. To create a unique model requires from 2 to 5 (or more) years, depending on the complexity of the project and features the historic ship - the original.
Only after overcoming a 40-year milestone, not everyone can be proud of modeler title master. Now simple arithmetic: a starting point we take the 40 - year old age, full creative life, say both years 25 - 30 (the limit) ... (Unfortunately people are still more can not live without), 25 years old share at an average of 3 we obtain the number of models (an average of 8). Igogo result of living masters 6 - 8 models (sorry for the averaging). Is it much or little? Negligible figure in the scale of one, even the first largest country in the world. At the post-Soviet space collected a maximum 7-9 masters can create a unique model. Their names are known not only within the CIS and worldwide.

Ships and palaces: that common?
Irina Kalmykov

Modern interior democratic. It finds its place a lot of artistic styles - from Baroque to the brilliant festive classics and terse minimalism. Sometimes the styles are intertwined in a most peculiar way, creating a new artistic whole. And here is especially important not to cross the border, to maintain the harmony of individual design elements and interior items. But how to define stylistic color so bright interior details, as a model sailboat? Not as difficult as it seems at first sight. Suffice it to recall that the model - a copy of a particular ship, and he, in turn - the carrier of aesthetic trends of his era.
Looking at the models of ancient sailing boats of Peter's time freezes in genuine amazement. Expression and elegant forms of ... Dynamic and powerful energy of an ornate series of figures ... Versatility of complex compositions ... impeccable transfer perspective ... you can admire forever! A rich game of light and shade, gilt and bright colors which gives the tree a smooth glossy surface, repeatedly reinforce the impression of an exquisite carving, done in the Baroque style.

Interestingly, in the form of naval sculpture Baroque foothold in two or three decades earlier than in the decoration of palaces in St Petersburg, inferior fleet of luxury finishes. It is in the gilded splendor of the decoration of ships European rulers saw the main manifestation of power and wealth of their powers. So what comes first - skilled ship's decor, or brilliant palace interiors? Really, there is something to think about the designers and art historians ...
In the Baroque era carved reliefs and sculptures decorate all the main parts of the ship - the stern, the side galleries, the upper sides of the belt, bow, latrine and the nasal tip. Excess? Not at all! "The beauty and usefulness" - this slogan sounded the then shipbuilders. It turns out that it was carved decoration make sailing in perfect being with perfect proportions, which we admire today. Carved decoration successfully camouflaged bulky items and architectural defects in the ship. And yet, they do not violate the logic of design, not something odd and strange, creates imaginary quantities, but on the contrary, strengthened the skeleton of the ship and gave the slender silhouette lines.
The secret of elegance is simple. Ship masters have never been as free artists working exclusively for the inspiration. All the decor - an important part of engineering project - hundreds and hundreds of times thought over, marking a line on paper, and changed again by marking a line in order to eventually merge perfectly with the architecture and design of the vessel. As a consequence, in the ship's sculpture existed immutable canons decorating parts of the ship. Thus, in small vessels and galleys, food was a definite scheme of decoration. In its center was located emblem, supported by two figures, just below the title went on the ship. A modest diversity achieved by the fact that the emblem to support or figures of warriors, or the saints or cherubs (plump kids).
It would seem that time stood still. But no! Rapid development of late Baroque palace architecture shallower many dogmas, has introduced new elements in the decoration of ships. The interiors of palaces at that time was dominated by His Majesty Ornament, which was achieved by the splendor of bright color and expensive finishing materials. Paying tribute to the fashion, the stern of the ship also began to cover rokaylnymi curls (imitation shellfish), vegetable pattern or trellis netting. But in the magnificent Baroque ornamentation still vkraplyalis human figures, cherubs, dolphins. After all, they were the bearers of ideas and noble thoughts of its creator, the great hope admirals.
Baroque style - the realm of fine, "kruglyaschihsya" lines - lasted a ship's decor until the last decade in the XVIII. The palace interiors approved by laconic classicism, and Catherine II and her followers stubbornly continued to float floating works of art. Why? The answer to this question exactly, nobody knows. Probably, the empress felt nostalgia for the glorious Petrovsky fleet. And maybe, just been a fan of talented sculptures. One thing is clear: no other artistic style - neither before nor after the Baroque - was not so close to the romantic soul of sailing ship.

You need to participate in exhibitions of art. Systematically. For example, in St. Petersburg Manege, in the annual, which usually open by Christmas. This free exhibition, which, in theory, are exhibited systematically working artists. Its going around in October. There are still paid - Festival galleries, etc. There is a "Dialogues" (in August), there should be setted with someone "foreign" to the dialogue a success. You will have success, there are too bored ...
I would like to add: while you can put up with some kind of artist who is also on the topic. This - in the "dialogue", as by the condition of rented cubicle, or two and all the participants throws ...
