Central Naval Museum Senior Research Officer - Head of Sector of the funds of the Central Naval Museum ART models of the English 48-gun frigate "Pallas" (HMS PALLAS) Implemented in England by French prisoners of war in the late XVIII - early XIX centuries. Bone, copper studs, ebony Central Naval Museum Among the rich palette of styles ship models occupy a special place model, made prisoners by the French sailors stationed in England during the French revolutionary and Napoleonic wars between 1793 and 1815. In TSVMM stored three models from the collection of Konstantin made in this style. It is assumed that he had brought them from England in the years 1857-1858. Captured sailors held in offshore prisons, which were retrofitted under the old ships, old castles, forts and camps. The difference between plavtyurmami and beach camps were significant. The ships had no places for recreation, the prisoners lived in crowded conditions, they were not allowed visitors, and they feel forsaken. Most of the models was done in the camps Dartmoor (Dartmoor) and Norman Cross (Normal Cross) near Hantigdona (Huntigdon). The prisoners were receiving rations, varies from 1 pound per day for a regular sailor, up to 55 pounds for the ship's captain. In addition, they provide clothing and food, albeit in insufficient quantities. Captured sailors often sought to somehow improve their living standards. Most of the prisoners of war, with civil professions, engaged in various crafts. For sailors in captivity mainly craft was sudomodelirovanie. In the camps twice a week and sometimes more often organized markets in which the prisoners could sell their products, and used the money to buy materials for the manufacture of models, clothes or food. Bones - This material, which most often associated idea of the models created by prisoners of war. Daily diet of war consisted of half a pound of beef or mutton, including the weight of bones. The most common method of building blocks models was interior wooden dummy shell thin bony plates. The plates were obtained by sawing the bones thin saws, and sometimes twisted wire. Initially, the bone cooked in potash, buying white, but sometimes dyed of ivory, as part of ivory look more prominent. For this technology completed model 48-gun British frigate "PALLAS" ("Pallas"). Rigging is made in great detail, but the proportions of the ship's hull somewhat distorted. |

Model sailing ships - a serious history of the child hobbies.
The history of human exploration of the ocean is almost as old as the history of mankind. Build the same sailing ships mankind learned much later than it started to settle in coastal areas of seas and oceans. But, once having learned to sail, people did not lose this ability and to this day. Changed the value of a sailing ship in the economic, political, research, and cultural life of mankind. Change the materials, technology, design and construction of sailing ships. Sailing for fun and sport occupies in the life of a growing number of people the same place, which took it to travel by car. This trend is more typical for countries that are prosperous in economic terms. But, despite the economic and political turmoil the last 20 years, in Russia the situation in Ukraine from sailing ship-building has changed dramatically. And global trends begin to affect the situation in the shipbuilding and sailing in our countries. But in this article I want to address issues not sailing ship building or sailing navigation. I want to talk about art, which is directly and closely related to the art of creating a sailing ship. It's about sudomodelizme, and in particular about the art of creating models of sailing ships.

What's new.
In recent years ( since my last posts) interesting events occurred in my life model . Oddly enough , some of these events were directly related to the theme of the painting. I commissioned his client for which carried out several models , explore opportunities to purchase the paintings on the marine theme . Here in this thread on the model forum I told enough about the background of this project and its implementation http://workshop.modelsworld.ru/section12_article205.php project with the purchase of smoothly flowing into the project for the production of copies of paintings on marine theme . The project concluded , from my point of view, effectively. It was a good and rewarding experience for all parties involved in the project . To copy the selected job was George Chambers (1803-1840, English, Marine Art) Capture of Puerto Bello http://www.artsheaven.com/george-cha...oductions.html as a result of the project , I can say that now I have included services for the production of copies of paintings on the theme of the sea in the list of services offered workshop.
Added after 19 minutes Next interesting period was associated with work for one customer Moscow . His interest lies in the small coastal shipbuilding European countries. This small boats and ships of different epochs . By the soundness and integrity of his character, he began to build his own attitude to the subject and began to transform it into a part of his life ( very consistently , methodically , and deep detail) - began visiting maritime museums of Europe , to communicate with restorers and experts in the field of naval reconstruction collects personal library of antique and modern books and drawings to communicate with different modellers to clarify for themselves how their understanding of and opportunities for the implementation of this understanding of the material. He orders a different model modelers to find those shades crafts that will express his sense of the theme of the sea. I did it for two models . This model Chigiotta tartans , fishing boat Kedzha province , Italy. Here is an overview of the construction of this boat http://workshop.modelsworld.ru/section13_article200.php And the Portuguese model muleta . With the construction of this model is one more interesting event - an expedition to Paris Maritime Museum and the Maritime Museum in Lisbon - that reviews about this trip http://workshop.modelsworld.ru/section12_article238.phphttp: //workshop.modelsworld.ru/sect...article244.php But the topic on the forum dedicated to the construction of models muleta http://forum.modelsworld.ru/topic11413start135.html these are the events took place in while , until I was not here . And your comments about the bad lighting in museums right . As to the exhibition of models on the background of the pictures , here you have to show taste and careful not to pinch with spectacular scenes - that they do not overshadow your gorgeous models . Possible to use for exhibitions and modern technical effects : projection on the wall image ... etc. may be in the windows of copies of documents about the events related to specific ships ...
