Falcons-Skal Pavel Petrovich (1899-1961)

Russian painter, master of historical and battle painting, Creator of reference works of socialist realism.

Sokolov studied at the Studio school I. I. Mashkov (1914-1918) and the Higher artistic-technical workshops (VKhUTEMAS, 1920-1922). In 1919, working as a graphic artist in Troitsk (Orenburg province), has added his name to the console Skal. He was Chairman of the Association "Genesis" (1920) and a member of the AHRR (1926). He lived in Moscow.

Temperamental, his bright painter and graphic artist, in the early period belonged to expressionism Ostrovskogo wing (series of ink drawings Years and people, 1929). Made his name as the author of the historical-revolutionary and battle paintings, which has grown steadily in scale, showing as if the official "Windows history". Worked as a teacher (at the Central art courses AHRR (1922-1930) and in other schools, including the Studio of military artists name M. B. Grekov (1932-1941).

Was awarded the Stalin prize for political-military posters for "Windows of TASS" (1942). In a number of paintings captured the Stalinist conception of the great Patriotic war (I. C. Stalin on the defensive borders, 1947; the same street, house 1948; both paintings in the Tretyakov gallery), helping to add "style triumph" and simultaneously giving it a national-romantic color (Ivan the terrible in Livonia, 1937-1943, Russian Museum).

Together with C. N. Yakovlev directed the restoration of the panorama of the defense of Sevastopol F. A. Rubo (1954-1956). Created book illustrations (Russian folk tales, fairy tale p.p. Ershov humpbacked horse; both works - 1949), worked as a theater artist (artwork of Ivan the terrible, A. N. Tolstoy at the Maly theatre, 1945.). Prepared two "atomenergie" - Years and the people and the duty of the artist, published in 1959 and 1963.
