Equipo Realidad (1966-1976) - a group founded in February 1966 in Valencia, Jorge Ballestero (Jorge Ballester) and Juan Carlos Cardelli (Juan Carlos Cardells). Artists met and became friends while studying at the School of Fine Arts in San Carlos in Valencia.
Jorge Antonio Ballester Ballester son of the sculptor and painter, as well as the nephew of the Spanish revolutionary, artist, muralista, photographer Joseph Renau (Josep Renau). The following year, after a group of artists signed the manifesto and pledged to "serve the community through art." Josep Renau (Josep Renau Berenguer) was born in Valencia in 1907. His father, Jose Renau Montoro was a painter, restorer and a professor in the School of Fine Arts in San Carlos. In six years old his father took Renau from school and made his assistant. Through the boy's hands were paintings by Velazquez, Goya, Titian. After graduation from the School of Fine Arts in San Carlos (in 1925) Renau worked as a painter, lithographer assistant, graphic designer, creating numerous posters, magazine covers and books. In parallel, he studied photography, which will be crucial for his work in the future. Renau twice moved to Madrid in 1928 and again in the next year, but did not feel comfortable there, returning each time in Valencia. Meanwhile, his paintings and posters were exhibited in Madrid and Valencia, received prizes. Inspiration Renau drew in German Expressionism, Dadaist movement, surrealism. With the advent of the Second Republic in 1931, the European experimental art has become more widely available in Spain. In addition, he studied the work of Russian Constructivists Rodchenko and Lissitzky. Renau joined the Communist Party of Spain in 1931. In 1932 he founded the Union of Proletarian Writers and artists. He created and supported by the magazine Nueva Cultura, who edited from 1934 to 1938, with a break of several months at the beginning of the Civil War. Since the beginning of the Civil War Renau entered public life. In 1936, he became one of the directors Verdad, the Communist Party newspaper in Valencia. Josep Renau (Josep Renau Berenguer)
In early 1939, with his head hanging over the death sentence Renau is one of the refugee camps in France (Argelès-sur-Mer). 6 May of that year, he and his family goes to New York on the steamer Vendamm, and then in Mexico City. Making calendars and posters, he earns his living. Together with David Alfaro Siqueiros painted the interior walls for the headquarters of the Mexican Union of Electricians ( "Portrait of the bourgeoisie"). In the future, collaborating with various magazines: the cover creates, publishes articles on art and politics. In 1940, Renau receives Mexican nationality. In 1942 he won first prize in a competition United Hemisphere International Posters Competition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Renau continues to collaborate with magazines, illustrated books, painted café, creating posters, participate in contests. In 1949 he began a cycle photomontages «The American Way of Life» (The American way of life). This work attracted the attention of some officials of the GDR (in Mexico had large colonies of German Communists), who suggested that he send the photo montages for publication in a satirical magazine published in East Berlin, «Eulenspiegel Verlag». In 1958, Renau moved to East Germany, where he created a collection of collages "Über Deutschland" (In Germany) and holds exhibitions Fata Morgana USA (1967) and The American Way of Life (1977).
