Childe Hassam American impressionist artist.
Born in 1859, in the suburbs of Boston in the family of a businessman. His early works date back to 1879 Hassam began his artistic career as an Illustrator-watercolorist. In 1882 he made his 1st solo exhibition of watercolors in the gallery of Boston.
In 1883 Hassam made a "study tour" in Europe (together with E. H. Garretta), during which he visited the UK, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Italy and Spain, studying creative heritage of the old masters and creating watercolors of European landscapes.

In 1886 Hassam enrolled at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he studied drawing and painting. In France he became acquainted with the work of the Impressionists, which has had an indelible impression on him. He wrote: "Even Claude Monet, Sisley, Pissarro and the extreme school of Impressionists do some of the things that fascinate and will live".

Hassam returned to America in 1889, he settled in new York and began to work actively and fruitfully. In 1897 he joined the creative team of Ten, the breakaway from the "society of American Artists", in the sign of protest against the commercialization of art.
