По умолчанию A parody of Hirst's skull - Polish forgery of Peter Fassa

I must admit the name is similar to an alias of "Peter the Lame" or "Petro Vsemnaperekor, but rather it is. This is a Polish artist, who made a copy of the skull Hirst with fake diamonds, to rid the British of the need to spend money - a substitute for work for 50 million pounds. estimated at 2-3 thousand pounds.
In short - joke. Sold to Phillips: http://www.phillipsdepury.com/auctio...=1&order =

Attention to the photo: left - the forgery of Fassa and the right - the original Hirst.
PETER FUSS

Hurst just in Mexico, this idea came - he has a house there, where he spends several months a year. Indians worship the cult of death, which came to our days (and curiously plaited in Catholic ceremonies).
Sorry, this idea he stole from his friend, with whom he lived in America. (And generally many of his ideas stolen (sharks, turtles, Daisy, anatomical man) .. Two designers with him for it sued ..

Crystal Skulls - discussion and mysterious objects. Some believe they can see ancient artifacts, with medicinal and magical properties. Others reject this view, considering the skull forgery relatively recently. To agree on the origin of artifacts, both sides still had not arrived. Some researchers argue that the whole world, there are 13 crystal skulls, but now we know the location of only five of them.
Читать дальше...
The objects are models of human skulls carved out of transparent quartz crystals. Known in the present specimens differ in size - from a few inches to the size of a human head. Where there were skulls and what they were used - a riddle. Their origin is associated with the pre-Columbian cultures of South America, in particular the Aztecs and Maya. Undoubtedly, the most amazing and mysterious of all the crystal skulls is the Mitchell-Hedges skull, which has a sinister, but attractive beauty is not inherent in other instances.
The intricate story about the fate of the Crystal Skull, as it is now called, mysteriously, as the object itself. The sinister skull of destiny, weighing about 11 pounds 7 ounces (about 5.2 kg) carefully carved from a single quartz crystal. The peculiarity of the skull - a well-fitted removable jaw, which can move as if the head is talking. Despite the small cracks in the temples and cheekbones, it is anatomically correct model of the human skull. The origin of the mysterious artifact hidden under a veil of secrecy - the Mitchell-Hedges skull has no evidence in the documentary sources. The story goes that in 1927 (possibly 1924) British explorer and lover of adventure FA Mitchell-Hedges (1882-1959), looking for Atlantis disappeared, he studied the ruins of the Mayan ceremonial center in Lubaantune (Belize). With him on the expedition went to his adopted daughter, Anna Mitchell-Hedges. On his seventeenth birthday, she wandered over the study area and found the upper part of the skull, under which the altar. Only three months later in the same room was found the jaw of the skull. Seeing the reaction of local residents in this strange discovery, Mitchell-Hedges skull gave them. But later, when he and his team gathered to leave, the local priest gave Mitchell-Hedges skull as a gift: in gratitude for food, medicines and clothing, which the researchers gave these people.

However, this romantic story about the opening of the Mitchell-Hedges was questioned. In fact, he bought the skull for 400 pounds sterling, at Sotheby's in London in 1943 by the owner of an art gallery in Sydney Barney. It is with this can be related to the one inexplicable fact that the Mitchell-Hedges does not mention the skull in his newspaper articles on Atlantis, he wrote in the 30-ies of XX century. In favor of this version of the evidence and the lack of photographs of unusual artifact among the images taken during an expedition in Lubaantun. Frankly, Mitchell-Hedges wrote nothing about the skull until 1954: it then came the first mention of a crystal skull from the time of his alleged discovery in 1927, the finds were devoted only a few lines in the book of the Mitchell-Hedges "My girlfriend danger." Perhaps, therefore, Hedges wrote about the fate of his skull like this: "I have reasons not to talk as he was in me." Another proof of the fact that Hedges could not find the artifact in Belize, found in the July issue of "Man" (1936) - printed edition of the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland. It contained an article on the study of two crystal skulls. One of them described as an exhibit of the British Museum, the second skull was called Barney. The latter was no more than a skull fate Hedges and apparently belonged to an art dealer Sidney Barney. Nowhere in the article not mention the FA Mitchell-Hedges did not mention the fact that the skull was discovered in the ruins of the Mayan city Lubaantun. In his book "Secrets of the supernatural," Joe Nickel Barney refers to a letter written in 1933 in the American Museum of Natural History. It says: "The skull of rock crystal for several years was the property of the collector, from whom I bought it, who in turn got it from an Englishman, in whose collection he also spent several years: more look I could not." These data cast doubt on the history of Hedges, but not the authenticity of the skull, for whatever reasons would Hedges nor invented this unusual story. However, he was not accustomed. He had a reputation fabler (among them the stories about how he shared a room with Leon Trotsky and fought with Pancho Villa).

Many of the properties of the supernatural and sinister legends connected with the crystal skull, originate in his autobiography the Mitchell-Hedges "My girlfriend danger. It is there that the artifact was first named the skull of destiny. Hedges writes that the skull was used in the Mayan high priests of magic rituals associated with curses, sends a painful death on the alleged victims. The strength of the skull was so great that it alone could cause instant death. Mitchell-Hedges also said that the age of the skull, the creation of which lasted as many as 150 years, is at least 3600 years. Although he has not provided any data that might confirm his words, statements Mitchell-Hedges became part of the legends about the fate of his skull. It was rumored that he carved hundreds of years to achieve the ideal form: the master ground and polished it every day throughout his life.
After the death of the Mitchell-Hedges skull in 1959 passed to his adopted daughter, Anna, and remained with it until 1964, until she referred it to friends of the family - the restorers of art to Frank and Mabel Dorlendam to conduct a detailed scientific study. Typically, for security reasons they handed the skull to the saving in a bank vault, but once he took it home and putting the fire, noticed a striking visual effect, which gave the light coming through the skull. Some stories even mention otherworldly forces that have expressed themselves with the appearance of the skull in the house researchers. In 1970, Frank Dorlend took the skull to the city of Santa Clara (Calif.) in the lab of Hewlett-Packard, which was at that time one of the world leaders in electronics, computers and electronic quartz technology. Following an analysis of the skull, the scientists said they could not be found on the chip is no microscopic markings indicating the use of metal tools to handle it. Later, the laboratory staff noted that the skull was carved against the direction of crystal growth.

They were wondering: why did not he collapsed during manufacture. Based on these data, Dorlend came to the conclusion that the first piece of quartz was attached draft form, possibly with the help of diamonds, and then grinding and polishing was carried out by water and sand. This zealous, unhurried work was, according to Dorlenda, last about 300 years. Repeating a statement on the subject of a huge timing, he added another allegation of work on it a few generations.
Riddle of origin and the establishment of the skull of fate led many to believe that in this process were involved superhuman powers. And suddenly the crystal is really no less than 3600 years and it has survived since the death zateryannyh lands such as Lemuria and Atlantis? So thought FA Mitchell-Hedges. His daughter Anna believed that the skull was taken from another planet, and kept the inhabitants of Atlantis before it was in the city of the Maya Lubaantun. Someone used the skull to skrainga (using a crystal or water tanks to invoke visions) and, as they say, seen in detail the life of ancient civilizations, someone noticed the chaotic appearance and disappearance of the strange spectral rays inside the crystal, or even a holographic image. With the skull attributed the appearance of mysterious sounds and spontaneous motion of objects.

Some people suggest his magical and curative powers. In the tradition of the Native American population is told about 13 ancient crystal skulls with movable jaws that can talk and sing. According to legend, when all 13 will be found and collected in one place, will open the wisdom of mankind: his real aim and purpose. Many believe that the fate of the skull is one of those 13.
For years, Anna Mitchell-Hedges went on cities of the United States with the skull, offering money to see and touch the famous artifact. She still claims that they had found a skull with his father in Lubaantune, and after the expedition FA Mitchell-Hedges gave it to Barney for temporary storage. When her father realized that Barney is trying to sell the crystal, then immediately bought it.

Although, according to some scholars, the Mitchell-Hedges skull seems plausible artifacts from South America with their convention in the depiction of objects, yet the origin of the skull associated with the Aztecs and Maya. For reasons the researchers present data on the significance of the skull in the iconography of the indigenous population, as well as archaeological objects created by the Aztecs of rock crystal. Although today there is no evidence that the Mitchell-Hedges skull, or other crystal skulls have been found in archaeological digs in South America, Aztec origin seems most plausible. The skull could be used as an oracle: the priest is driving a movable jaw, separately attached to the head with wire, simulating speaking, and given the properties of a crystal to reflect light the fire, the spectacle must have looked scary.

However, an intriguing story about the fate of his skull story does not end. In 1936, when the first studies the Mitchell-Hedges skull, next was another crystal skull, received the unpretentious title of "the skull of the British Museum" - it was used for comparative analysis. Crystal, presumably Aztec origin, was transferred to the museum in 1897, the New York jewelry company Tiffany & Co ". Research conducted anthropologist Dr. James M. Morant, who found that the skull differ from each other for two - three indicators. For example, the skull of the British Museum was made of one piece, without a separate fixed jaw and the skull of Barney (which anthropologists call the Mitchell-Hedges skull) looked natural and was carried out more carefully. Summing up the study of two crystal skulls, Dr. James M. Morant wrote: "we can confidently conclude that they represent the same human skull, although one could be copied from the other." He believed that since the skull of Barney anatomically more detailed, it is ancient and is a model of the skull women.

In January 2005, there were the sensational allegations that, after numerous tests of the skull in the British Museum, for which used a scanning electron microscope, a team of scientists of the British Museum came to the conclusion that the artifact was created in the XIX century. Most likely in Germany. Researchers have found traces of crystal, characteristic of jewelry equipment, not previously appeared in the XIX. Today it is considered that the skull was made for a French collector Eugène Boban, who soon sold his company, Tiffany & Co.. "In the years 1860-1880. Boban sold antiques in Mexico City and received a skull from Germany. In 1992 the Smithsonian Institute, was delivered crystal skull from an unknown sender, claiming that it is made by the Aztecs and was purchased in Mexico in 1960, Studies in the Smithsonian Institute, showed that the skull was performed using a wheel or circular saw - tools not known in pre-Columbian America. The employee of the Smithsonian Institute, Jane MacLaren Walsh discovered documents showing that the appearance of all the skulls involved Boban. In addition, further studies showed that Bob had a lot of these "old" crystal skulls, and some of them are in museums. Among them, a skull, which is located in the Paris Museum of rights (now it is stored in the Trocadero Museum in Paris). All of these skulls were actually made in Germany in the years 1867-1886.

The existence of counterfeit crystal skulls of the XIX century. not necessarily casts doubt on the authenticity of the skull of destiny, however, casts doubt on the question of the origin of a number of unexplored ancient crystal skulls, mainly exhibits of private collections. Many researchers have questioned why Anna Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull refuses to grant to study under the scanning electron microscope. He though it has not determined the exact time of creation of an object (not methods of dating of ancient crystals), but it can be used to determine whether it was an amazing masterpiece is made relatively recently, is it linked with the Aztecs or Mayans, or perhaps, its origin is quite different .
