The staff workshop over four decades has been the generator of ideas in the decorative arts, shaping the future of Ukrainian ceramics in architectural decoration, developing and implementing new technologies. The work of the creative team was largely determined by and the modern face of the decorative and architectural ceramics.

The workshop was founded in 1946 on the initiative of art Panteleimon Nikiforovich Musiyenko (he, like N.і.fedorova, a graduate college Mezhygirska ceramics and glass) and with the support and assistance of academician Vladimir architecture Ignatyevich Zabolotny. First, the establishment was called experimental art pottery workshop of the Institute of Architecture Engineering and Architecture Academy of Ukraine. Since 1963, the workshop was subjected ZNDIEP Kiev (Kiev Zonal Scientific-Research Institute of Experimental Design) and was named "Laboratory of architectural and artistic ceramics. The team worked in a small one-story house on the reserve "Sofia Kiev", and so the studio was often called the "Sofia pottery," "Sofia studio or workshop Nina Fedorova. Nina led the laboratory from 1944 to 1985.

The main goal and focus of schools was involved in rebuilding war-torn Kiev, creating a new architectural and artistic image of the city. For this purpose it was necessary to direct the efforts of architects, engineers, artists, art critics in search of new technology of ceramic production at the same time looking for creative art direction. The basis of the team on three principles: focus on Ukrainian folk traditions of ceramics, an innovative approach in their application, the creative collaboration of craftsmen, artists, professionals, technologist and architect. And we must recognize that the use of synthetic approaches to business, creative collaboration of many specialists have brought impressive results. Ceramics, developed in the workshop and introduced the architectural and building practice, sounded a new way. In conjunction with the architecture of ceramics (decorative art and oblichkuvalnі elements) was used with a sense of proportion, as a valuable ornament. Everyone is familiar with the history of modern Ukrainian ceramics such samples of registration as a decorative tile for decorating residential buildings on Kreshchatik restaurant hall of hotel "Dnepr" (destroyed in the late 1990's), the interiors of the hotel "Kiev", "RUS", "Golden Ear "House of Cinema, a secondary school № 51 in Kyiv, underground subway stations Khreshchatyk" and "Nivki, Kiev River Station and Cinema" Ukraine "hotel" Black Sea in Odessa, Hotel Tarasova Gora in Kanev. The studio worked fruitfully art - P.n.musієnko, N.g.krutenko. Best of Nina Ivanovna, understanding their artistic value, immediately passed on to the Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Folk Art. Therefore, our museum has the most comprehensive collection of works by the studio (more than 1500 works). Creative work of the cell presented at the International Museum of Ceramics in Geneva, is decorated with museum exhibitions in the world, private collection. Dozens of solo exhibitions of masters laboratory occurred on the territory of Ukraine and former Soviet Union. Works created under the roof of the Sofia pottery, have participated in regional, all, foreign exhibitions (Prague, Montreal, Budapest, Warsaw, Sofia, etc.).

"From entertainment - to knowledge" - one of the mottos of Nina Ivanovna. In her studio has always been interesting, it was possible to hear the news of archeology, mathematics, history, architecture. Experiment, the search and development - that was characteristic of the creative atmosphere of the cell. In 1970 formed another line of work - searching for a symbolic sign of Ukraine - a talisman, a talisman that protects against evil forces. Formed, one might say, a poem about the lore. Each guest received a master amulet and a symbol of the glory of them, swept across Ukraine and around the Union ...
