Renoir often watched the audience in the theater. "The Lodge at the Opera" shows us a couple expecting beginning of the presentation. Man - the brother of Edmond Renoir - remains in the background, almost half of his face hidden by opera glasses, while the woman has settled a velvet barrier in full splendor of her beauty. The whole picture, for which posed "little girl" Nini Lopez, is an ode to charm a young woman, and although Renoir map it to within a few tense posture, the picture is full of freshness and devoid of any affectedness.
"The Lodge at the Opera" became a symbol of impressionism. Paul Zhamo painting called "a masterpiece of all masterpieces by Renoir, as its novelty and innovation amaze us, while everything else requires a comparison with the greatest of the Old Masters." Portrait of Auguste Renoir, painted by Frederic Basil in 1867. Последний раз редактировалось tchaika; 13.11.2010 в 20:04. |

At an auction in 1875, among a few friends who tried to raise prices and bought several paintings were Ussey, Chesneau, Roire and Oshede.
But the auction was also an unknown man, a kind of Victor Choquet. Later, he told me he wanted to visit the exhibition at Nadar, but friends persuaded him not to go. They failed, however, prevent him from coming to this auction. When later he was introduced to Monet, then tearfully said: "To think that I lost a whole year because I could get acquainted with your painting for a year before, how could deprive me of such fun!" Frugal inspector of customs control, shock was the soul of true collector. Preferring to make discoveries for himself, guided only by personal taste and pleasure, he never dreamed of speculation and absolutely no interest in what others think or do. Portraits of Victor Choquet (Victor Choquet): - Auguste Renoir, 1875, 46 x 37 cm, Fogg Art Museum, Cambridge, Massachusetts. - Paul Cezanne, 1875, 45.7 x 36.8 cm, Collection of Lord Victor Rothschild, Cambridge, England. Collector Victor Choquet - a modest, intelligent man, whose image is marked by a rare spiritual grace - saving at all to buy paintings by Delacroix, Monet, Renoir and other artists.
"... My admiration for Victor Choquet, who not only bought works by Renoir and other Impressionists, and became an active advocate for their creativity in a circle of friends, as well as at subsequent exhibitions impressionistic, Renoir expressed in the two portraits. Written in 1875 and 1876 They convey not only the appearance of the model, but his noble spiritual essence. These portraits represent the characteristics of the psychological analysis of the internal world portrayed typical of Renoir. It is interesting to compare the portraits Choquet, written by Renoir, with portraits of Victor Choquet, made in 1876-1877 by Paul Cezanne. By the way, Renoir, wanting to help their completely unknown at the time and not recognized by the public friend introduced Choquet with Cezanne, and the collector was a passionate admirer of the painter. Comparing portraits Choquet, written by Renoir, we can see how to improve their artistic image. Portrait from the front is written so that we see not only the inherent Choquet habits, for example, keep their fingers woven together, but also the background of a portrait, representing, apparently, sketch by Delacroix, Renoir who might have written at the request of the customer. despite the fact that the person who inspired Choquet with a good head of hair graying hair and thoughtful eyes looking at us directly and closely, it looks like a plane, devoid of the necessary volume and this seems to be less expressive and relief. The scene on the sketch by Delacroix seems random, and being directly behind the head Choquet, as a contrast to his appearance. We see that this wish of the customer has not found adequate artistic decisions in the portrait. If Renoir took up writing another portrait, this circumstance it is best to tell us is that the artist was extremely demanding of himself in the incarnation of their artistic vision and achieve their full expression in his portraits, as required by his artistic taste and understanding of internal and external image portrayed . The second portrait of Victor Choquet, close and its size and composition to the first portrait, has some differences, which, though not striking the audience, but transform the look of the model substantially and psychologically accurate. Renoir slightly - three quarters - deploys head Choquet, and she immediately takes the necessary volume and prominence. Become more expressive of his smart piercing eyes in deep sockets, thin aquiline nose, sharp cheekbones with strong folds of wrinkles, a high forehead. His gray hair was brilliantly written, and fast movement hands so send hair that seems, they fall apart, a little shaken imperceptible movement of air. Shock is presented in a shirt with open collar and a hand with long, thin fingers pulls the tip of his short-cropped beard. It was probably in that position, and with such expression Choquet looked liked by his paintings. The background of the portrait is painted bright tone, and it left its mark on a short brush strokes of green and red paint. In general, the background does not distract our attention from the facial expressions and appearance of Victor Choquet, and so the portrait looks remarkably expressive. Renoir has created a masterpiece of psychological penetration into the inner world of the model, and did so, noticing the most typical kind of model, when the Choquet, probably still under the influence of perception of works of art. It caught a fleeting state of man, but it instantly reveals the highest meaning of life and activity of the collector Victor Choquet. By comparing the portrait of Renoir portraits Choquet, written by Cezanne, we can say that the latter, depicting a model and a bust in the growth of sitting in a chair, so that the figure for Choquet seen his collection of paintings, I could not so figuratively and psychologically accurately represent appearance collector . In the portraits of Cezanne felt a desire to repay his enthusiastic admirer, and a buyer who acted contrary to public opinion in those years. One can see that Cezanne wanted to present the Choquet as much as possible with dignity and like, but beyond that, it seems, could not go to Cezanne. At the same Renoir's portraits, we see not only the appearance of man. When the second Renoir portrait Choquet refused to transfer domestic details, it became possible to understand the passionate soul and a sharp intelligence of this outstanding pioneer and connoisseur of art Impressionists ... "from the book MS Lebedyansky Portraits by Renoir, 1998. Renoir introduced Victor Choquet with Cézanne, who in his turn at the beginning of 1876 brought Choquet to have breakfast with Monet. Portraits of Victor Choquet: - Auguste Renoir, 1876, 46 x 36 cm, Private Collection, Winterthur. - Paul Cezanne, "Choquet sitting", 1877, 65 x 57.2 cm, Fine Arts Gallery, Columbus, Ohio.
