Conversation with the artist Yuri Ermolenko about money, death, and the core values held June 11, 2009, the eve of the opening of his personal project "Eternal Values" Gallery "shop". Talked with the artist gallery owners Natalya Sheiko, Alexander Scheluschenko and art critic Mary Hruschak.

MH: Tell us who the author of the project idea?

A.SCH.: Author - Yuri Ermolenko, painter, gallery "shop".

MH: "Eternal Values" was obviously from the same source as the previous project "The Peruvian toys", which was made after a trip to Peru.

JE: It so happened that I flew ¬ in Peru because of this project is "Peruvian toys" appeared on the go.
I searched the cemetery of the Incas. I learned about it by chance, no matter how strange. It is possible that it was "the central cemetery of the Incas XV - XVI centuries - it was buried people of all ages, ranks and classes.

Your creativity, as for me - has always been more about Eros than of Thanatos.

JE: So anyway, I periodically return to the topic of death. Then I was curious to explore this subject in the context of all this controversy about Hurst. Although I have this project took a long time, even before the opening of the exhibition in "PinchukArtCentre." Hurst uses the skull as a kind of verbal character and plays them. And in the ancient cultures of the skull should always be standing name because the name - is a particular person, but man - this is a definite energy. Therefore, the personification of my project is not accidental and therefore all the portraits of the original.
Then came a parallel idea: the most significant world currencies - the euro, pound, franc, yen and so on - to impose on porters mummies. Of course, we took the ruble and the hryvnia, because it is part of the cultural field in which we live.

MH: We - this means that the project was created in constant dialogue with the owners of galleries?

A.SCH: Jura is one of the few artists with whom you can work in the creation of the project - from idea and familiarization to a specific space. He works on the edge of sensibility and understanding, we just tried to formulate's message. I think, to find an artist - to achieve gallerist. I think in the future we will work with the artists in this way, otherwise the output is difficult to obtain a strong and significant projects.

MH: Portraits of mummies were selected under the notes in any special way?

JE: Sure. But the most important is something else: elementika image - totally reliable and well documented. And it overlaps exactly on all those marks, images and symbols that are on a particular banknotes.
Naturally, some things I did not show, they are superfluous here: for example, in the American dollar that I've played in front of Franklin, that was enough.

MH: And what has this imposition? Opened the gates to the underworld?

JE: In the first place - is a picturesque project. By the way, some even had to modify the language of pictures, resulting in between the portraits of the inhabitants of the cemetery and banknotes has turned some backlash, the third point. MH: Your relationship to money, in the context of this project?

N.Sh.: Yeah, money can buy a bit of an imaginary immortality. MH: That is, nothing remains except the love of money?

A.SCH: Let's start with that "eternal values" - this is what people always think. I think in today's world, people unconsciously - whether thinking or not, poor or rich - think about the money and the immortality.

MH: But the money - it's equivalent to the realization in this life. The more you samorealizueshsya - the more you earn.

N.Sh.: It's up to a certain point. Up to a certain point, money gives freedom. And then they can easily enslave and kill you as a person - you're not visiting in the search, you, in principle, even love is not interested, because that money will atrophy all human receptors perception.

MH: By the way, there is a saying on this subject - if you want only money, and then you get only money. That is, so you can interpret the main thrust of "eternal values"?

A.SCH: Unfortunately, most people who are not immersed in art, in reflection of life - than, as for me, must deal with the actual art - think only about money and death. 's Message "eternal values" sent to them. Owners of galleries, critics, curators - they are, in principle, understand the paradox of these two principles: no sense to think about money, but think about them all. And to think of them not washed, because most of them of thinking does not become greater.

N.Sh.: It's like a long life - someone dies young and healthy, while others live long.

MH: The format of the works was given a new space of the Guild "?
