As reported in the description of the lot :

The last years of his life during the war , Soutine prvel in Champigny-sur-Veude. In summer 1943 it ulcer worsened and he was forced to go back to Paris, where he died in August of that year .
In Champigny-sur-Veude, Chaim Soutine alternately
lived in families CROCHARD, COQUERIE, PICHON,
AVRIL and VARVOU.
Do Mr. and Mrs. Varvou, parents of young
Marcel shown in the picture painted by Soutine ,
he left the pallet box . Which Marcel and his wife saved and is now selling .
