Collecting is the most democratic exercise. Taste and talent as a gift and can have any man. Taste can feel and choose the most luchshe. The taste was at the Shchukin-man from the lower classes, the choice of paintings which plunged into the horror of the household, and not only. The larger collections the more sales and purchases, and the elite is very small and usually tasteless. Clearly praise young beautiful but also rich, but we have no serious galleries.

Yes about him about it. And not only them. He bought a Matisse when he has no one bought. The money Shchukin and Morozov Matisse bought a house in Klyamare and Picasso bought an apartment on the Boulevard de Clichy, where he moved from the Bateau-Lavoir.

I do not know what you call "from the bottom" and "from the top, but SI Shchukin received his primary education at home, and then secondary education in Saxony. Graduated from the Higher Business School in the town of Gera (Bavaria).
In 1882 his father, IV Shchukin bought Prince Trubetskoy Palace in the Big Znamenskoye Lane, 8. Since 1889 it moved Shchukin family. In the mansion were held lavish receptions and house concerts, there were representatives of the nobility, commercial and industrial elite, intellectuals - KS Stanislavsky, FI Chaliapin, SV Rachmaninoff, SP Diaghilev etc. |

Yes, something somewhere ...
In Russia, from 2 nd half of the XVIII century firmly established the division of birth: Nobility, was divided into hereditary and personal; Clergy The estate of honorary citizens; merchants; Commoners; Commonalty; Cossacks; The peasantry, this class was divided into personally free chernososhnyh freeholders and farmers, as well as dependent on the crown and the feudal serfs. SI Shchukin was from a family of merchants of Old Believers. And the merchants, the privileged class in Russia in the XVIII - early XX centuries. So-called "third estate" - after the nobility and the clergy. Estates status merchant defined property qualification. Since the end of XVIII century merchant was divided into three guilds. Belonging to one of them was determined by the size of capital, from which the merchant was obliged to pay an annual guild fee of 1%of total capital. This made access to the merchants representatives of other sectors of the population. Since the beginning of XIX century until the 1917 revolution merchants rose from 125 thousand men to 230tysyach. However, 70-80%belongs to the third guild. Merchants could be awarded an honorary citizenship and the ranks of Commerce and Manufactures-adviser. Ranks of Commerce and Manufactures-Adviser were introduced in 1800 to encourage entrepreneurs. They corresponded to the class XIII Table of Ranks. Get them could only merchants, passed a "blameless" at least 12 consecutive years in the first guild. Obtaining such a civilian rank gave privileges to the merchants, close to the gentry. So I think that the Shchukin and Morozov literally blew up all the moss-covered swamp, and gave a huge tolchek development of art. Study abroad then and now, two different things. Perhaps that is because it was available for 3 classes, as well as in Paris, a small-town Jews in general had to earn wealth and great difficulty, and then take them to health and could sometimes only the next generation. |
