The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) released data on the global sales of music albums for 2009.

According to IFPI, global music sales in 2009 fell by seven per cent, total revenue from them amounted to 17 billion dollars. The decline is associated with deterioration in the two major music markets - the U.S. and Japan. Sales of music on physical media in the world for the year fell by 12.7 percent. Meanwhile, revenues from digital sales grew by 9,2 percent to 4,3 billion dollars.
