Default Creative meeting AES + F in the "shock troops", impressions

Yesterday went to an evening with AES + F group in the cinema "Drummer". There's based cultural foundation "ArtChronika" and will soon be a museum of modern art. And while they came up here to conduct such meetings with the Kandinsky Prize nominees. A rare opportunity to a lucky no hurry to meet interesting people.

Last year, when the newly opened Arena show AES + F, it's a lot of status, but obviously not prepared the public. And we stood with painter and tried to formulate - and who else from the Russian artists today could learn the space arena. We must understand that AES + F today - international stars. Perhaps the only Russian stars. In this live and work in Moscow. Topics are selected bold. And they are remarkably intelligent - and this is the main impression from the meeting.

1. They asked, what galleries work? They now have 11 galleries around the world. But maternal gallery, which does business (investment, contacts, etc.), is Moscow's "Triumph". Interest in terms of cooperation with the gallery. No surprises here, the usual distribution: 50 to 50.

2. The project takes an average of two years. Budget - a few hundred thousand dollars. Just shooting (tens of thousands of pictures) takes about 10 days. Next - computer processing. Most of their things - small-circulation, not a single copy.

3. The main market of their work - in the West. There's a good buy and videos. And in Russia so far no videos have not sold. But that'll come. The biggest market in the world - the United States. There, as they say 80%- this is the middle class and 15%of the middle class buy art. The share of serious collectors of course much smaller, but the base is huge. The population of the United States - it is over 300 million.

4. A funny memory. In Shanghai, VIP-opening of the fair was spread over three days. Why so long? The Chinese explained: collectors have actually relatively small, but the population is large, so they 22000 <! - ~ 1 ~ ->

5. Asked about the longevity of prints. They say that being made on archival materials, some fiber paper, so life is not in danger. Printed, including in Russia and in the ProLab. But in general, the original is always there in digital form, so the collector can not survive - can always be repaired.

6. AES now make an interesting project for yuvelirke with Saha Diamonds. It is said that there are difficulties, but the project is interesting. In my memory, this is the first collaboration project with yuvelirschikov Russian contemporary artists.

7. In light of the severity of those raised (Islamic project, freely "pastoral" sculpture making fun of political correctness in a sexual context, "fashion show" with pokkoynikami, etc.) asked them about the prosecution - whether such cases? It seemed to me that in our time for such a great fit those artists include legal department. It turned out - nothing like that. Could recall only two cases of censorship. In England, showing things from the Islamic project (the Statue of Liberty in a burqa, London, captured by the Taliban and others) coincided with the invasion of Iraq. And the leadership of the museum (not in London, but somewhere close by) has decided to remove Freedom from the poster. The upshot was curious. Museum staff conspired to have printed t-shirts with this print, and so came to work. In short, all ended well, the war in Iraq because of the allusions British artists have not lost (of course, in the tactical military sense.) And the second case - a ban billboards "King of the Forest" (a modern interpretation of the myth of the villain Gone beautiful children). It is understandable why banned. But there are also dealt with. That's it. Before the trial was never reached, because in those places people have to share artistic expression and political appeal. Incidentally, the AEC noted that the exhibition - it is a rare area where people feel free to speak freely on the most sensitive issues - the threat from the East, the decline of Europe, etc. In this case, AES podcherkivalli many times that they do not politaktivisty, just people talking to the concerns of their subjects. 8. Several people were close to a solution, but totally no one guessed right - the theory of probability are stubborn things.

9. The video that we saw in the project "Trilogy" in the Arena last year - it's not a video, and morphing. Is a series of photographs, then one way a computer simulated motion. I never would have thought of that. Morph himself booked somewhere outsource to India. So here is the imperfection of the movement that gives morphing, once created a distinct recognizable artistic language.
