Kaplan, Anatoly LVOVICH (real name Tanchum Leyvikovich) (1903-1980) was a Russian painter. Born in Rogachev (Mogilev province) December 28, 1902 (10 January 1903) in the family butcher. He studied at the Higher Art and Technical Institute (Vhutein) in Petrograd-Leningrad (1921-1927) and at G.S.Vereyskogo A.A.Rylova. He lived in Leningrad, often bumping into their homes in the former Pale of Settlement, where he studied the remaining traces of traditional Jewish life and culture. In 1937-1940 he worked in Verey led experimental lithographic workshop LOSH (Leningrad branch of Union of Artists).
In his compositions in the spirit of the "silent art" (or a kind of lyrical expressionism) - mostly black-and-white and color lithographs - resumed the characteristic motifs of the pre-revolutionary "Jewish renaissance", who sought to enter the ancient symbols of Judaism and themes shtetl "Yiddish culture" in the mainstream of modern art. Since his major work by the artist Leningrad factory glass (1950-1951) experienced increasing interest in the bulk form, and from the end of the 1960s, was actively engaged in ceramics (plaques, decorative dishes and plates, small sculptures in the technique of fire clay, colored glaze and engobe ).
