Jean Jansem (real name Hovhannes Semerjyan, March 9, 1920, Istanbul, Turkey - August 27, 2013 Paris, France) '94-French painter of Armenian descent.

Hovhannes Semerjyan Selegey was born in the village, a suburb of Bursa, the son of spinner silk. Under the threat of new persecution of the Armenians in 1922, the family with the retreating Greek army emigrated to Greece. From 1934 to 1936 Hovhannes attended the Free Academy of Montparnasse. In 1938, he graduated from the Paris Academy of Decorative Arts, and then within a year honing his skills in the studio "Sabatier". From the beginning, the artist has chosen as the object of inspiration outcasts, poor people, and the Genocide - Genocide. Jansem is a consistent bearer of the national historical memory, which he throughout his life brings to the iconic series. The first works as an independent artist Jansem started with Armenian national motifs ("Armenian", "Armenian Wedding", "Funeral", etc.). After he received consecutive four prestigious awards before it opened the door galleries. His work began actively buying, resulting in 37 years, he has acquired a name and fortune.
