On eBay selling fake paintings of Dali and Picasso
Seven people were prosecuted for selling counterfeit paintings by Picasso, Chagall, Miro and Dali, reports BBC. Among accused four Americans, two Spaniards and an Italian.
Fakes sold in galleries, exhibitions and through Internet auctions, in particular, eBay. From July 1999 to October 2007 they purchased a few hundred people in the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan and European countries. Prices forgery reached fifty thousand dollars.
The defendants carried out trade in counterfeit paintings on a large scale: It is reported, for example, about 600 copies of Chagall's paintings. Received by them from criminal activity income totaled more than five million dollars.
In addition to the sale of forged works of art, the defendants charged with forgery of certificates of authenticity and signed by the artist. If they are found guilty, each faces imprisonment of up to twenty years.
