I believe that realism and the struggle for realism, it is nonsense and even worse, sometimes it is an attempt to cover up the mediocrity. It is important that the work was sharp and expressive ie talented. You can be very original in realistic painting, and dull and gray in the abstract. Another Van Gogh said that the abstraction of a dead end. He meant that it is difficult to be original in abstraction. Working on realistic associations is much easier to achieve.
