sergejnowo, so with Mazepa, Pushkin "Poltava" questions withdraw --

He is old. He was depressed for years,
War, cares, labors;
But feelings are running high in him, and again
Mazeppa knows love. (With)

I myself am not in the subject, but the label clearly read: Mazeppa ... Maria ... AS Pushkin

Yes, this moment is the plot.
Mazeppa gloomy. His mind
Embarrassed by violent dreams.
Maria gentle eyes
He looks at his elder.

Default Question Ukrainian furamchanam

From the plot, the author and linked to the history of the harm is clear.
Question to Ukrainian furamchanam:
Who is he, Ivan Mazepa, in the eyes of modern Ukrainians?
A fighter for Ukraine's independence?
Traitor?
In other words, can such a picture proudly hanging on the wall in "decent" house in the Ukraine? : rolleyes:

sergejnowo, incidentally.

According to the research staff of the museum - reserve "Field of Poltava Battle" Shendrik LK and Azarov AV, Peter I and other Muscovite tsars set a task for government agencies and the church in Ukraine to destroy everything that could remind Ukrainians of Hetman Mazepa. To this end, Moscow's power in Ukraine, along with the annual anathemas, destroyed all the images of Hetman Mazepa on the pictures in the churches, the icons and engravings. As a result of tsarist Russia's actions now places without accurate representation of the exterior of the Hetman and the reliability of images for all 16 versions of his portraits. (c)

By the way, Mazepa's portrait is on the Ukrainian money. I do not remember only the dignity of the bills.
I think that this picture may be interested in someone in the Ukraine.
