The work is framed in an old wooden frame with stucco
and gilding the late nineteenth century.

The painting depicts the English greyhound - greyhound. The letter "H" on the collar and the date of creating the painting suggest that the image of a dog belonged to someone in the family of Emperor Nicholas I. On the canvas on the reverse side is glued label with the monogram of Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolayevich the Elder (1831-1891). The label is viewed inventory number "821". Most likely the picture comes from the rooms of the Grand Duke Nicholas in the Palace, built by prominent architect AI Shtakenshneider in 1861, which houses a large collection of works by Russian and European art.

Schwabe, Johann-Gottlieb-Alexander (Aleksandr Petrovich) (1824 (?) - 1872) - Russian painter. In the years 1838-1844. studied at the IAH in a class battle painting in AI Sauerweid. From 1845 was employed painter in the Office of the State of the Imperial Horse-Breeding and racing, he wrote a lot of portrait images of horses. In 1850 he received the title of academician. Makovsky Vladimir Zhukovsky (1846-1920) - painter and graphic artist. From 1861 to 1866. studied in MUZHVZ in SK Zaryanko, ES Sorokin and VATropinin .. In 1869 he received the title of class artist of the first degree with a gold medal. In 1873 he received the title of academician. From 1872 he was a member TPHV, participated in almost all the exhibitions, and since 1874 he was elected a member of the board. From 1882 to 1894. taught at MUZHVZ. In 1892 he was awarded the rank of professor. From 1894 to 1918. taught at St. Petersburg IAH, where he was invited to head the genre workshop at the Higher Art School.
