"Self-Portrait with Palette", written by Edouard Manet in 1878, sold for 22.4 million pounds at auction, auction house Sotheby's evening of June 22 in London, reported AFP.
The amount paid for one of only two existing self-portraits of Manet, became an absolute record prices for works of this artist ever sold at auction. The previous record price for painting Manet lasted since 1989, when the painting "" La Rue Mosnier Aux Drapeaux "(" Rue Monnier with flags, 1878) was sold at Christie's auction in New York for the equivalent of 16.4 million dollars . Despite the fact that "Self-Portrait With Palette" is now considered the most expensive work of Manet, the organizers of trading assumed that the shroud could sell even more expensive - a preliminary assessment of the picture - 20-30 million pounds. Another record price was set at Sotheby's for work André Derain. His "Arbres a Collioure" ("Trees in Kolliure, 1905) went under the hammer for 16.28 million pounds in the Estima in the 9-14 million pounds. Previously, the most expensive work of Derain considered "Barques au port de Collioure" ("Boats in the Port Kolliura"), sold in 2009 at Sotheby's auction in New York for $ 14 million (8.6 million pounds). Among the most expensive of auction also includes paintings by Henri Matisse's "Odalisques jouant aux dames" ("Odalisque depict women", 1928), pushed under the hammer for 11.8 million pounds in the Estima at 10-15 million pounds, and the work of Chaim Soutine "Le Valet de chambre" ("valet", 1927-28 years), sold for 7.8 million pounds during the preliminary assessment of 7-9 million pounds. Part of the paintings on display at the auction in London on 22 June, including the work of Derain, was a renowned collection of art dealer Ambroise Vollard (Ambroise Vollard), who died in a car accident in 1939. After Vollard's death his collection was placed in a cell of one of the banks, which was discovered only in 1979. Following the discovery of their paintings for a long time could not put up for sale because of a dispute between the heirs of Vollard, who managed to settle only a few years ago. Total for auction in London was offered 51 lots, 35 of which were sold. Total revenue from the bidding exceeded 112,101,000 pounds. June 29 Sotheby's to sell the second part of the collection Vollard. Bidding will take place in Paris. (Lenta.Ru) |
