KOMITAS (Sogomonyan Soghomon) (1869-1935), Armenian composer, ethnographer, music theorist, choirmaster, and teacher. The founder of the Armenian national composer school. In 1910, Komitas lived in Constantinople - one of the important centers of Armenian culture. Along with the composer's creativity, he frequently acted as choirmaster and singer in Constantinople and other Turkish cities, as well as in Egypt. 17 and 18 April 1915 in Constantinople, the Armenian church in Galata quarter were first heard one of the outstanding works of Komitas - Patarag (Liturgy) by the male chorus.
