Outstanding Latvian artist Janis Rosenthal (Janis Rosentals) was born March 6, 1866 at the farm Bebra, near the town of Saldus.
From 1888 to 1894 the future painter studying at the Academy of Fine Arts from the artist Vladimir Makovsky. He - a member of the circle "Rukis.

After training, Rosenthal returned to Saldus, which is building its own studio artist Tower of Dreams. Money earns paintings to order. From 1901 to 1915, Rosenthal has lived and worked in Riga, where he writes and teaches painting pictures in their own studio (from 1906 to 1908) and in the Riga City Art School (from 1916 to 1914).

The artist died at the age of 51 years in Helsinki, 13 December 1916.
