Aleksander Świeszewski (1839 - 1895)
Aleksander Świeszewski - a landscape painter - one of Polish artists educated and settled in Munich. He began his education by studying at Warsaw Fine Arts School under Christian Breslauer. In the year 1863 he joined the January Uprising. After the fall of the uprising he went to Munich where he studied at Academy under professor Fritz Bamberger. He travelled a lot - to Italy, France, Tirol and Swiss. While visiting Poland he was in the Tatra mountains. During his travells he realized nature studies and sketches, which he used finishing pictures in his atelier. He painted mountain landscapes most willingly, often in the rays of declining sun. He also painted seascapes and gardens with ancient ruins. Świeszewski participated in many exhibitions and his pieces were presented at many galleries around Europe with a great success.
