... "The house number 120 on the avenue of the world was built in 1953. The powerful volume, the major form of architectural details, this house - a typical example of the Stalinist Empire style.
The building is crowned with four decorative corner towers, surrounded by an arcade with a balustrade. Arch tall, each baluster balustrade size of post. One of these towers converted into a workshop.
Many years and much effort it took the family of Moscow artists, - the descendants of the outstanding Russian architect Ivan Fomin, - to give new life to this tower. In its history the most fantastic way reflects the country's history: the existence of the Moscow intelligentsia in the Soviet years, the echoes of imperial utopian ideas, the reality today. When, in late 1970 has been received this workshop, there was not even a full recovery and artists had to carry materials for his monumental mosaic panels on a narrow fire escape. Here, almost all had to do with his hands. Three generations of a family of artists, year after year, dragging on his shoulders tons of debris and cement, endlessly up and down - not surprising as the embodiment of Soviet heroism of the great legends of the little man, the builder of a better future?
 Thus, inside the tower was set up its space to serve the art - surprisingly light and bright, as if floating above the city.

Elevator to the fifteenth floor, four foot span, the door on the right. Passing through the corridor, you find yourself in a tower of the former loggia, now glazed and has become part of the workshop. Decorative arcade game turned into a large elongate room dizzying heights, the rhythm semicircular windows and small spaces between them remotely resembling a cathedral. This same, embracing an internal staircase, leave open space in the second level.
At a height of four meters, cutting through the space under the most unexpected corners of the wall in the wall of stacked rails. Railroad rails with the stigma of a German factory during manufacture - 1898, 1905. Perhaps they relied scaffolding, and the rails themselves were taken from the warehouses of the defeated Nazi Germany? Riddles, assumptions ... And the rails themselves in the meantime has become an integral part of the workshop. Looking at them you can think of turns of history, and can be used for hanging artwork and lighting.
A large window can go directly to the roof. City seen as the palm of your hand: pavilions VDNH, Sokolniki, but the chief charm here, and not even in the panorama. Very high-rise roof is unexpectedly thrilling spectacle, comes to mind - a Soviet version of Gaudi. Gromada towers shamefully expose a peeling in places facing the noble old brickwork. Trances attic outputs bristling antennae. Infinite cable braid the roof, if Lilliputian fetters of the body HUGE hulks Gulliver. Rooflights and pipe ducts - and all this on an endless patchwork of tin, silver-gray, reflecting the color of the Moscow sky. Severe romance imperial sweep with patina of time on the brick lace towers.
History made one more revolution. The monumental tower - originally a non-functional space, the architectural extravagance of the imperial style, has turned into a workshop. And this workshop with its history, an extraordinary space and environment, could turn again to the extravagance now for personal use (which, incidentally, is quite consistent with the character of our time). Fortunately Fominy decided otherwise. In his studio artists gathered from time to time to various non-profit artistic events, as well as to revive the tradition of home exhibitions, where it played such an important role in the history of Russian art and culture. Maybe this is an unusual place, and lifted up above the city and the bustle of the megalopolis, can create a free creative space for those artists and art lovers that are tired of empty commercial projects, and art galleries of glamor.
