Immanuilovich Osip Braz (1872-1936). One of the best Russian portrait painters, a member of the World of Art "and after Alexander Benois best connoisseur of the old painting in Russia. One of the masterpieces of its collection - paintings JB Chardin's "Still Life with Attributes of Art - Hermitage obliged Braz, who bought it from the antiquities market. He was arrested in early 1924, on charges of economic espionage, on false charges "for informing the British about the upcoming sale of property of the Hermitage. In prison, the artist opened consumption. Later he was transferred to a camp on Solovki, where he remained from 1924 to 1926. Here he took an active part in the creation of the museum of History and Art Museum, some time was his head, but mostly engaged in the monuments and their descriptions. In 1926 he was sent into exile in Novgorod and held a solo exhibition, which presented the scenery of the ancient city. Left Russia and moved in 1928 first to Germany and then to France, Brazil does not have Novgorod topic.
