Today Ukraine is celebrating 195 years since the birth of Taras Shevchenko. Literary Heritage Shevchenko familiar to the majority of Ukrainians (and not only Ukrainians) and thoroughly studied, but his artistic legacy, I think is not appreciated fully. One of the favorite disciples Briullov K., Shevchenko blazed new paths of realism in painting. He was one of the founders and the first outstanding master of etching in the Ukrainian art. Shevchenko has worked with the broadest range of - oil, watercolor, ink, charcoal, Italian pencil. His view of art is synthetic and was poetically multifaceted.
Contrary to popular belief, Taras Shevchenko never nothing extolled his nation over other nations, never sought it features the exceptional. Shevchenko was a man in the "generic" meaning of the word and still be the son of his time and his people. He was aware of its duty to the entire human family of nations, but had the courage to remind this great family of its debts to his impoverished nation, without equal approval which the world will be incomplete and unjust, and therefore does not find justification in the face of conscience and reason.
