FLAX basis. The most common basis for the painting is the canvas, which is closely associated with the chemistry of oil paints. Linen canvas is made from plant fibers-Linum usitatissimum. Canvas is durable and textured material. Rough and uneven tissue is a major factor in the choice of this basis for painting. A diverse selection of linen textures differ in the number of threads per inch: - The average invoice (contains 79 threads per inch); - Smooth texture for portrait quality (contains 90 threads and more). Linen canvas is a single (SW) and double (DW) weave. Double weave is much heavier, denser and more expensive and is used for a single large-scale paintings.
