Cobra (CoBrA)
Art direction, born in 1948 and disbanded in 1951. It arose as a reaction to the dissensions between abstraction and figurativom. Group name - an acronym for Copenhagen - Brussels - Amsterdam - to name the cities where there were painters - participants of direction: Christian Dotremon (Christian Dotremont), Jacques Calonne (Jacques Calonne), Joseph Nuare (Joseph Noiret), Asger Norn (Asger Jorn) Karel Appel (Karel Appel), Constant (Constant), Corneille (Corneille), Pierre Alechinsky (Pierre Alechinsky), Pol Bury (Pol Bury), Henri Herup (Henry Heerup), Egill Jacobsen (Egill Jacobsen), Karl Hennig Pedersen (Carl-Henning Pedersen), Jacques Doucet (Jacques Doucet), Jean-Michel Atlan (Jean-Michel Atlan). Destination focussed on the North European folk art, primitive art, children's drawings, expressionism and surrealist automatism.
