Painting by Paul Gauguin "Still Life and l'Esperans" written in memory of Vincent Van Gogh, valued at 10 million pounds sterling (15,4 million dollars), wrote on January 8 The Daily Telegraph. This canvas, which are in private collections and exhibited in 1989, Gauguin wrote in 1901 in Tahiti.
The painting depicts sunflowers - a frequent theme in the works of Van Gogh (in particular known for painting in 1888 "Vase with 12 Sunflowers" stored in the Neue Pinakothek). The first paintings of sunflowers, Van Gogh began to write in Arles, where they are with Gauguin shared a house in the summer of 1888. One of the paintings adorned the bedroom walls of Gauguin. Auction Christie's, which must be sold to a still life, held on 9 February in London. As a representative of the auction house told news agency AFP, 10 million pounds - the upper bound estimate, but the picture may be sold and more expensive. According to her, Van Gogh was not the only source of inspiration for Gauguin, also in the picture you can find traces of the influence of Edgar Degas. In total, according to Bloomberg, at Christie's auction will feature 78 lots, the total estimated cost of 108.7 million pounds (169 million dollars).
