A collection of 12 paintings by Rabindranath Tagore, was sold on June 15 at Sotheby's auction in London for 1.5 million pounds (2.2 million dollars), reports BBC News.
Organizers of the auction said that this collection of works of Tagore, apparently, the most valuable among ever put up for auction. All the pictures many times higher than the top the estimate, so the most expensive of them (portrait of a woman) was estimated at 30-40 thousand pounds and sold for 313,000. Who bought the paintings of Tagore, were not disclosed. Rabindranath Tagore (1861 - 1941) was not only an artist but also a writer and poet (he wrote in Bengali), as well as a composer. Tagore - the only Indian Nobel Laureate for Literature (1913), in addition, he is the author of words anthems of India and Bangladesh. (Lenta.Ru) |
