Exhibition of works by El Greco was opened in Brussels

BRUSSELS, Feb. 4 - RIA Novosti, Alexander Shishlo. Exhibition of works of famous Spanish painter, sculptor and architect El Greco was opened in Brussels Palace of Fine Arts, Bozar, on Thursday, RIA News.

The exhibition, entitled "El Greco Domenikos Theotokopoulos 1900"* (" EL GRECO Domenikos Theotokopoulos 1900 "), which inaugurated Minister of Culture of the Presidency of the European Union of Spain Ángeles González-Sindh, presented a total of 40 paintings by masters of painting, including the famous series "apostolados" - images of Christ and the 12 apostles.

The exhibition was brought to Brussels from Mexico City, where for two months it was visited by over 250 thousand people.

Domenikos Theotokopoulos (1541-1614), known in Italy "Greek", was born in Candia, Crete, and, before settling in the Spanish Toledo, quite a long time perfecting skill in Venice and Rome.

But it was moved to Toledo, where he created his most famous works.

Brussels Exhibition of works by El Greco is open until May 9th.

* The Greek name - this is the real name of the painter, born Cyprus and left the home, first for the sake of Venice, then - for the sake of Toledo. Same year - 1900-nd - indicates the period when the name of El Greco, forgotten almost immediately after his death in 1614, was finally glorified, and work - are investigated and reassessed.
