After years of searching has found some 160 works by this artist in the 27 museums and private collections. ...

Designer Karl Wilhelm (Karl Ivanovich) Bardoux, who lived in Russia from 1827 to 1832, was born in 1770 years in Berlin, died about 1842 (exact date unknown). His father - Franz Barda (1744 - 1818) - known in his time sculptor. The artist was, and uncle - Paul Barda, and another relative - Johann Barda, also worked in Russia (1784 - 1794), which, incidentally, is often confused with Carl.
Karl Wilhelm wrote pastels, mostly portraits, striving in St. Petersburg, Kazan, but most of all in Moscow, where he developed an extensive gallery of portraits of eminent Muscovites. The appearance of many of them known to us only pictures Barda.
After years of searching (efforts mainly IM Katzman - an employee of the Moscow Museum of VATropinin) were found about 160 works by the artist, dispersed to 27 museums and private collections. The result was the first exhibition of his works, held last summer at the museum VATropinin. There was even published a modest catalog (supervisor GD Kropivnitskaya).

KV Bardoux particularly drawn to the genre of family portraits. He wrote Baratynsky, Engelhardt, Tolstoy, Lazarev, Talyzina. He owns and children's portraits of famous Russian poets EA Baratynskii and FITyutchev. Extant portraits Yevgeny Abramovich Baratynsky performed in Moscow in 1810 - 1811 years, perhaps, the only images Baratynsky Moscow pore of his life (to attribute their IM Katzman). Obviously, Barda was the entree into the family Baratynskij: it captures a brother and sister of Yevgeny Abramovich - Heraclius, and Natalia. In "Family Engelhardt (1816. Stored in the Museum-Estate" Muranovo "), we see twelve year old Anastasia Engelhardt, who in 1826 became the wife of EA Baratynsky.
In 1814, Charles wrote Bardoux paired portraits of Tolstoy and Catherine Petrovna Engelhardt. He also in 1806 executed a portrait of her sister Catherine Petrovna - EP Chirkova, wife of General N. Chirkova (their daughter was married to the poet Denis Davydov).
Brushes KV Bardoux owned portrait of his grandfather Leo Tolstoy - IA Tolstoy, and his father - NI Tolstoy. He also - by a miniature watercolor on ivory depicting AI and PI Tolstoy - aunts writer.
And in 1806 Bardoux portraits brothers FI and NI Tyutchevs (shortly before Fedor moved to Moscow and entered the Moscow University. His brother graduated from here as popular at the time the School kolonnovozhatyh).
In the portrait gallery of Charles Bardoux significant place is occupied by the representatives of Moscow and other famous families - the Lazarev, Delyanov, Arapetovyh, Sumbatov, Abomelikov. Portrait ND Aslanov (1816 - 1897), Director-based OL Lazarev Lazarev Institute, was written by Bardot in 1818. There is a portrait of S. Talyzina (1795 - 1858) of Barda, established in 1806. Godson of Alexander Suvorov, who was married to his granddaughter A. Zubov, A. Talyzin of the Moscow militia participated in the Patriotic War, in 1827 - 1833 he was the manager of the Moscow office of the Governor-General of Prince Dmitry V. One of the colorful figures in Moscow was AA Pisarev (1780 - 1848) - a general, military governor of Warsaw, author of works of literature and fine arts in 1826 - 1833 years - the trustee of the Moscow school district and the University of Moscow, the chairman of the Moscow companies Stories and Antiquities of Russian literature and lovers of Russia, Honorary Member of the Russia Academy and the Academy of Arts. Despite extensive work on the study and attribution of the paintings of Carl Wilhelm Bardoux (in it, except IM Katzman, participated AM Gorshman, N. Goncharov, PE Kuznetsov, VA Bessonov) many works of this artist is still not found the names of the characters depicted on them.
