17 December 2009 a number of news agencies reported on the criminal case against one of the most famous photographers of Central Asia - Umida Akhmedova. According to information distributed, Umida Akhmedova accused of "insulting and slandering the Uzbek people". The reason for the accusation served as the album "Women and men: from dawn to dusk, which was published in 2007 with the support of the Swiss Embassy.
I would like to recall that freedom of expression the artist is one of the key criteria for the rule of law. The right and opportunity to judge a work of art, to evaluate it or to criticize belongs to the experts and the audience, and not a punitive system. From a legal point of view, art can not be regarded as a "document" and therefore can not be an agent of "slander".

Photos Umida Akhmedova have obvious artistic value and enjoy international recognition. Many international experts believe that they are the Central Asian cultural heritage. The State should be proud of creativity of talented photo-artist, but he did not threaten criminal prosecution.
Images created Umid Akhmedova, are neither fancy, nor even a caricature. They reliably fix those aspects of life, faced daily by every inhabitant of Uzbekistan, every passer-by on the street, guests at the wedding ritual, or other family celebration.
