In the period from 1966 to 1971 graffiti become one of the means of political activity, have also been used to distinguish between "their" areas between the street gangs. The period from 1971 to 1974 marked the emergence of the first writers, one of whom in the newspaper «New-York Times» devoted an entire article. Also among the first "painters", who was honored to be named writers were JULIO 204, FRANK 207 and JOE 136.
Over time graffiti purchased the extent of movement and spread to a remote area of New York - Brooklyn, New York, where he was a legend - FRIENDLY FREDDIE. All writers practiced in the metro, and gradually arose between the areas of some unspoken rivalry: all work to ensure that their work was the best. Mainly, these were the tags and the meaning of competition was not the raytinge as such, but in the bombing - writing his tag the maximum number of times. Gradually, the attention of writers of the time "shifted" to the depot - where the chances of being caught were times smaller than directly in the subway, and more time for execution of works, from which money can only gain. It was then that were formed by the key principles of the modern notion of "bombing".

Gradually the writers began to increase the scope of its tags to experiment with design graffiti - it is limited only by the imagination of writer. Sometimes writers struck a "piece" of the entire height of the car (it is believed that here was a pioneer SUPER KOOL 223). These fonts are called Top to Bottom ( «top to bottom"). At that time, were very popular writers such as HONDO 1, JAPAN 1, MOSES 147, SNAKE 131, LEE 163d, STAR 3, PHASE 2, PRO-SOUL, TRACY 168, LIL HAWK, BARBARA 62, EVA 62, CAY 161, JUNIOR 161 and STAY HIGH 149.

Gradually developed new styles. One of these styles, being developed by writers from Philadelphia on behalf TOPCAT 126, was named Broadway, and resulted in the development of the inscriptions of the huge blocks of printed letters, called Blockbusters. PHASE 2 belongs to the invention of another "basic" style of graffiti - Bubble letters. And the Bubble, and Blockbusters played a big role in the development and emergence of new techniques, new styles. Developments began combined and served as the emergence of Mechanical style (later called Wild style). Competitive nature of becoming familiar - PHASE 2, RIFF 140 and PEL, applying new developments, encouraged writers to self-improvement in this area. In that period, thanks to the sociologist Hugo Martinez, and he founded the organization «United Graffiti Artists», an exhibition of talented underground artists. At the end of that year began to appear first Whole cars (the size of fonts in the whole car) - among the masters of this direction is called AJ 161 and SILVER TIPS.

The period from 1975 to 1977 was almost exclusively associated with the bombing, often called "the greatest in the history of graffiti." It was connected, first, with growing interest in this direction, and secondly, that while Metro poorly funded and cleaning cars practically engaged. During this period, a host of very different styles of graffiti and graffiti-style whole cars were for writers something like stretching exercises. In the same period appears style throw up. True masters are considered throw up TEE, IZ, DY 167, PI, IN, LE, TO, OI, FI aka VINNY, TI 149, CY, and PEO. Peak whole cars, as well as throw up, accounts for the year 1975-77. The period from 1978 to 1981 marked a revival of "styles of graffiti. In this period it may be noted commands such as TDS, TMT, UA, MAFIA, TS5, CIA, RTW, TMB, TFP, TC5 and TF5. Raised his wave of bombing has stopped organization MTA, has declared war on illegal artists.

In the same period, many writers begin their work in such renowned places as «ESSES studio», «Stephan Eins' Fashion Moda» and «Patti Astor's Fun Gallery». These galleries have contributed to subsequent spread of graffiti throughout the world. In 1979 LEE QUINONES and FAB 5 FREDDIE opened a gallery in Rome, together with Claudio Bruni, famous artdilerom.

The period from 1982 to 1985 was marked by the tightening measures taken by the authorities in respect of graffiti and writers. Not the last role here was also played by the growth of crime: going to paint, writer, for his own safety, must have had a weapon.

Many artists then left to engage the idea of graffiti in the subway, but a part of all the restrictions were perceived as a "call", they continued to penetrate into the depot and paint cars. Also grew the number of collisions between the teams of writers who do not wish to share with anybody its territory.
