"The exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the great artist has opened in the Russian Museum. It is known that the master himself, famous brilliant technique of psychological portrait, portrait painter, had never thought, preferring more the honorary title of "painter". Which tells us that he would like to see a retrospective of his work. The exhibition - more than two hundred paintings, drawings and sculptures from the collections of the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov gallery and other collections.
Among the things which are exhibited for the first time, theatre sketches, and book illustrations to the works of Pushkin, Lermontov, Krylov. A significant part of the exposition given landscapes and historical genre. But the gem of the exhibition is the famous painting "the rape of Europe". Unfortunately, another work that Serov believed iconic, yet to put it is impossible. Panel "Christ Walking on the waters", created together with Konstantin Korovin, for the parish Church of Kostroma manufactory, entered the Russian Museum in a very bad condition and in need of serious restoration. At the jubilee exhibition shows only its color photograph.
"We to this exhibition tried to roll out this panel, see what you can do, and came to the conclusion that, unfortunately, to lead this work in the order it is impossible. So we canned.
