Michel Houellebecq, of course, is not the first writer who makes himself a character of his book and in the open call of the hero's own name. Come to mind, for example, and Yero Venichka, and limonovsky Eddie. However, these characters, though not identical to its creators, all had an autobiographical basis and were a kind of prosaic version of the lyric hero, usually present in the poems. The story in all of these works are first-person. A close analogue to Dante's Divine Comedy, as it is safe to say that the real Dante's hell is not down - though in this case, the story is from his face.

Much more like the example can be found in the works of older contemporary Houellebecq - Briton Martin Amis. The hero-narrator of the novel "Money" (1985), with speaking the name of John himself (in English - John Self) during their ordeal, met with the writer, naturally, Martin Amis and conducts conversations with him. However, there is a distinction that made Welbeck. Emisovsky Amis has not been active agent: he listened to the hero and looked at him suspiciously, as if aware of their bad lot interlocutor (and character) more than the Sam. The newspapers say that the fifth novel, Houellebecq may disappoint fans of his previous work: in contrast to the "elementary particles" and "Platform" there will be no sexism, no anti-Islamic.
