The exhibition-event "The mystery and splendor of pastel in Paris
The Museum d'Orsay in Paris held exhibition "The mystery and magnificence of pastels" ( "Le mystère et l'éclat du pastel"), which became an event. It will last until February 1, 2009. I visited this exhibition, having stood a great place. Impressive.
Bed worked: Maurice Quentin de La Tour, Peron, Francois Millet, Edouard Manet, Degas, Odilon Redon and other artists. Acquired by directory, rather thick. But, unfortunately, the reproductions do not pass characteristic of the luminous pastels. Pastels have to look at nature.
Note that the French word éclat has another meaning: Lights. But really, the impression that the pastel shine (though not all) compared with oil paintings, which darken with time because of their continuing chemical reaction. As is known, the basis of pastels - these are the same pigments that form the basis of oil painting, not only pigments mixed with oil, but with special glue.

I have read that Maurice Quentin de La Tour has managed to create a recipe for fixing pastels, but it took him to the grave. Look at the Louvre, as perfectly preserved his pastels.
