Charles Rosen (1864 - 1934) St. Petersburg and Riga artist, who wrote lyrical landscapes in the spirit of the late academic salon. Born in Jelgava, Latvia. At the end of the local secondary school went to St. Petersburg, where he continued his studies at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under F. Burov, I. Shishkin, and Yu Klever class of landscape painting. Participated in exhibitions of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1906, 1908, 1912 and 1914. Since 1918 he lived permanently in Latvia. He continued his friendship with J. Klever, who had in Riga own salon-shop. Solo exhibition held in 1927 in Riga Club officers.
In 1937 in Jelgava, the widow of the artist has arranged his posthumous exhibition. Most of the paintings during the life of the author has found his admirers in Denmark, Sweden, England, Holland, France, the homeland - in Latvia, as well as in Russia.
