Results and shock moments of the first half of Sotheby's in Paris

The first half of 2010, there were an unprecedented period of strong activity of Sotheby's in France since the organization of this branch (2001). Let's go back to a few figures and key events of this harvest semester.
87ME - French branch of Sotheby's turnover for the first half of 2010, far more than the same period of 2009 (46ME) and 2008 (71ME).
97%of works valued at 100000E found their buyers, these interest, we are particularly proud, because they show our quality feed of the most expensive works - one of the Sotheby's brand names.
Two-thirds of customers are outside France, - which means internationality profile sales, organized by Sotheby's in Paris.
Sotheby's number 1 in France in six disciplines: Contemporary Art, Art of Africa and Oceania, Asian art, books and manuscripts, antique furniture, Arts and Crafts, silver and gold.
A lot of world records was recorded during this half year, in particular, the "Rest of the sculptor Pablo Picasso, and works on paper from the collection of Andre Lavelle, which was sold on June 2 to 3.8 IU, and" Stormy quarrel "Neapolitan artist Gaspar Traversi June 22, crossed the border 1ME.
Sotheby's remains at the forefront of developments to the issuance of contemporary French artists, or those who work or worked in France, such as Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Jacques Villegle, Zao Wu-Ki and Erro, along with the other reached record prices and very high results in the sale of the 1 st June.

The results of sales in the first half of 2010 exceeded our expectations.

Undoubtedly, the market was "shock effect" because of or due
an uncertain economic context: the buyers felt that works of art, unless they high quality, well-born and correctly assessed auction houses are, as ever, a reliable investment. This is the main conclusion of the past months.

On a personal note, among the numerous examples of this abundance of the season, I would note two: the incredible saga of works from the repository of Ambroise Vollard, which says much about the press, and record the picture Neapolitan Gaspar Traversi "stormy quarrel", a masterpiece of found our specialist Pierre Etienne, composition worthy of commedia dell'arte, or Fellini, now open to the public, which proves that the art market than numbers remains an area of lively emotion, desire and the joy of discovery.
