Claude Leveque - One of the most significant figures in the contemporary art scene in France. More than 25 years Leveque invades the space, not only of galleries and museums in Europe, Asia and America, but the palace and park ensembles, and industrial complexes, translating reality into another dimension with installations built on the paradoxical combination of real and constructed objects, light and sound color and even smell. Installation artist's "Le Grand Soir" ("Great Evening"), transformed the building of the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2009, was a huge success at the professional community and the audience. In the alley gardens Giardini queues of would like to enter into giant cells with prisoners in the depths of the cross formed by the steel bars with black flags.

Moscow spectator until this year only once had the opportunity to see works one by Leveque. In 1995, the Estate "Kuskovo" an exhibition of French artists "Correspondance /Correspondence" presented installation Absalon, Christian Boltanski, Pascal Convery, Paul-Armand Zhetta, Fabrice Claude Ibera and one by Leveque. Over the past 15 years they have become stars and the classics of modern European art. As part of the year "Russia-France 2010" Claude Leveque shows two exhibition installation: "Ende" - in Moscow and "Ligne blanche" /"White Line" - in the Arsenal Novgorod Kremlin.

For the names of the installation provided in hall NCCA, Claude Leveque chose weighty German word "Ende", denoting the outcome, the end, finale. First created for the Paris Yvon Lambert Gallery in 2001, "Ende" - one of the most famous and penetrating works of Claude one by Leveque. Plunging the viewer into the space of total darkness, the artist deprives him of the usual landmarks. Soft, bending under their feet the floor increases the feeling of helplessness and instability. Trying to get used to the darkness and to distinguish the alleged object of the image, the viewer is in complete isolation from reality, with its usual coordinate system - waiting for the acquisition of drowning in the darkness. Only a mother's soft voice artist that sounds like quite close, sings French songs of the famous words of Joe Dassin - "If it were not for thee, then what if I do?" (Et si tu n'existais pas, Dis-moi pour qui j'existerais?). His voice, his heartfelt tone, his almost palpable presence keeps the viewer from the flight, recalling the eternal opposition of light and darkness, life and death. According to Vitaly Patsyukova - "This newly born of reality, where fear is next to love, and the collapse of hope, suggests the possible presence of life in a space not intended for her."

Claude Leveque was born in 1953 in Nevers (Nevers), France. Member of many prestigious international exhibitions including the Biennale in Venice (2009), Echigo Tsumari art triennale in Japan (2003, 2009), Berlin Biennale, Lyon, and Havana, as well as exhibits at the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris) and the Museum of C. Guggenheim Museum (New York).
